62. See all the movie's on AFI's top 100 list (2/123)

When browsing through the AFI's top 100 movies, you quickly see that most of the movies are far from recent. That's why in 2007, they created a new list. They removed 23 old titles and replaced them with 23 new movies to better fit the current generation of films.

So which do I follow? The one that is considered the classic, true, original list or the updated one? I figured to be totally thorough I could combine both lists, which makes for a total of 123 movies. After all, a lot of the new ones I have already seen.

One of the films that is on the new list is "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".

Well anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge fan of this saga. I am not going to elaborate on all of the amazing reasons why I love it because I instantly will sound like a huge nerd. There's really no way to talk about mythical creatures, evil spirits, and magic and still sound "cool".

This makes me think back to college days in the sorority house when my best friend and I would talk about the movies during lunch. The younger girls next to us would be talking about their fun nights out, fashion, celebrities etc. and then we'd be debating whether Legalos or Aragorn was the most dreamy member of the fellowship.

This always resulted in receiving some strange looks and we found it pretty hilarious to think about what opinions they were forming about us. In fact, it's probably the same thoughts you're thinking right now as you read this! However, it's all fine with me. I totally will own my LOTR dorkiness. Even Mark giggles at my commentary and the intensity in which I watch the shows. I've seen the movies so many times but they never get old.

This weekend, I was blessed with one of my favorite things in the world: a Sunday trilogy of all three movies in a row. TNT does this a few times a year and it always comes at great a time for me. Combine this with the rainy weather and mountains of work I have, and it becomes a perfect combination. The battle for Middle Earth makes great background noise for lesson planning.

Someday, I want to read the books as well so I can consider myself a true fan. I feel like a bit of an impostor claiming to "love" the series when I'm only going off of the movies. Perhaps that will be on the next 101 list :)
