Keep Your Goals To Yourself

Recently I have been hearing of and reading a variety of articles saying how personal goals should actually not be shared. Basically, these people researched and came to conclusions that contradict one of the major philosophies of my blog.

Woops.

I actually agree with a lot of their logic. For most of my life I've been extremely private about my goals. There is a deep satisfaction in working towards something that is almost "secret". In fact, I kept this blog a secret for a long time and still don't exactly share it freely.

Nonetheless, here I am, writing every week about my goals and perhaps inflating my false "social reality" just a bit more. I don't feel like my mind has been tricked by sharing my 101 list. Perhaps my over-thinking, worrying, analytical brain pushes against this theory... or perhaps my subconscious is still evilly working against me.

Whatever the case may be and whatever the facts point out, I'm still glad that I shared my goals. It might be a little self serving but when I began the blog I actually needed a way to focus on me. That sounds horribly narcissistic and makes me another cliche example of the millennial generation, but so be it. I have done some things that I don't think I would have gotten around to if it weren't for feeling the accountability.

So good luck to everyone out there who is working towards a goal, whether it is private or shared. I have faith that you can still accomplish it regardless of if you opened your mouth or not!

  1. I read the same article and had some of the same hesitations about making my goals public. However, I really think that sharing my goals is the best way for me to stay accountable.
