62. See all the movie's on AFI's top 100 list (8/123)

I got caught up on some major movies from AFI's Top 100 list over my Thanksgiving break.  The films are some of the most classically revered movies of all time (hence why they are also within the Top 10 of the list) and I'm glad I finally have first-hand knowledge of these greats.

One of the movies I watched was "Gone With the Wind".  Even though this movie is not ranked #1 I think many would argue it is known as the most famous movie of all time.  I have seen most of this film before and I think I even owned it as a child.  However, the long interludes and entr'actes were a lot for me to sit through when I was that young.  I have never actually sat and watched it from start to finish and now I have.

Cinematically, it's clear to see why this will always be lauded.  Lavish costumes, beautiful shots and scenery, important historical storyline, and a lovely musical score are just some of the obvious gems.  I (as most of the world) loved Rhett Butler's charm, Mammy's spunk, and Melanie's heart.  However, that Scarlett is a piece of work!

Old Hollywood really was amazing, wasn't it?

  1. Oh, how I love old Hollywood glitz and glam! On a related note, have many of your students seen The Wizard of Oz? Not many of mine have and they don't get my references. I think it's so sad!
