41. Work out 3 days a week for 1 month straight (3/12)

It's extremely embarrassing that this particular goal has to even be a goal. After all, it's a regular routine for...oh...pretty much EVERYONE I know. However, it is not a routine in my life and a habit I desperately need to pick up.

I could go into great depth with all of my reasons (ahem, excuses) but I'm not even going to waste time with that. I'm just going to dive right in by saying, "Here we go!" August is officially the month to knock out this item!

Week 1, Day 1
The first week is off to a great start. On Tuesday I was able to take a walk around my hometown neighborhood. While it may not have been the briskest pace, there are enough hills that my heart-rate got to a pretty decent level. I'm reminded of a quote I wrote back in grade school about our neighborhood: "They don't call it Western Hills for nothing!" I was able to bear the 100 degree heat and stay out moving for a solid 45 minutes!

Tuesday night I went with my Mom to the pool. While she did water aerobics, I swam some laps. Again, it was nothing extremely rigorous but I could feel it in my arms and legs by the end. I probably got in about 2,000 yards. It's crazy to think we used to knock out 5,000-7,000 meters back when we were swimming every day (sometimes twice).

Week 1, Day 2
Wednesday morning I went with my Mom to her gym, Maximus. I really dislike gyms (more to come about this in another post) but this worked out well! The atmosphere was unpretentious and the machines were arranged in a way that didn't put you on "display" for everyone else.

Week 1, Day 3
Thursday we returned back to Maximus in the morning and then hit the pool in the afternoon. My mom is an excellent work out buddy! :)

Now it's time to get serious and up the intensity of the workouts. While I do think that something is better than nothing, that notion is not going to get me to where I need to be health-wise.

Stay tuned! 9 more workouts, 3 more weeks, and lots of sore muscles to come!

  1. Way to go! I'm impressed you swam 2,000yds on your first time out. I only get in about 1800 yds when I get to swim :) I totally know what you mean when I think back to all the crazy swim workouts we used to do!

Remember - there's a RocketChix at the end of April and July in Baton Rouge and another one in August in Indian Creek if... hint hint hint :)

Can't wait to hear how the rest of the month goes!

  2. You go girl! After you keep this up for a month, you'll probably keep it up for longer.
