If you're wondering why I even have this listed as a goal, it's because I live with a professional chef. No matter what we're making he always knows how to make it better. The first time my chef made asparagus at our apartment I knew I needed to learn his method. If there's a way to make vegetables that taste good and don't require me to sauté them in loads of butter (thus negating the whole point of eating vegetables) then I need to know how to do it!
The first time I asked him, "How did you make these? They taste great!" He replied with words that I only semi-know such as blanch, explained how I can tell when they're ready to be switched out by "feel", and mentioned dashings of some seasonings and "sprinkles" of others. This is why my mind is better suited for baking- specific measurements, times, and steps. My chef is too talented to operate that way :)
So I received a full cooking lesson on the asparagus. A little silly yes, but I have a much better understanding of the blanching, "feels", and dashings that make it taste so much better than my "cook in a pan with olive oil...maybe add some salt and pepper" version.
I can't file this goal as "done" because the training wheels are still on for now. The real test will be if I can complete it all on my own. Update post to follow!

Can you make a vlog about this? I'd love to see a tutorial because my asparagus is always lame.
