71. Renew a Lease

I can cross off my first item!

We are officially renewing our lease and staying put in this apartment for another year. This is the first time in my life I'll be renewing a lease! In fact, I've moved around every year since I graduated high school. Now we can really settle in and make it our home, even if it is just for another 12 months :) We already painted a wall, hung some shelves, and are installing a few things into our kitchen. These are the small touches that aren't worth it when you know you're just going to have to take it down and then pay for the screw marks you left behind.

Also, it is so expensive and exhausting to move. Paying the movers, paying the realtor's fee (usually $1-2 grand), fronting for the security deposit, and then purchasing the items that are needed to make the new place function (cleaning supplies, hooks, mirrors, organizers, etc.) really add up. You have to spend all that time preparing, packing, organizing details for the big day, and then all that time setting up, unpacking, and learning your new surroundings. It takes a long time to bounce back.

Not to mention I won't have to change my address with a bazillion different people and companies! You have to try and remember to change it with your credit cards, bank, paycheck, insurance, friends, family, on-line shopping accounts, cell phone, restaurants that deliver, doctors office, etc. You are bound to forget a couple of places. I'm pretty sure I still have mail going to my past 3 apartments even though I have been diligent about this process.

Finally, it helps provide a sense of calm. It's that time in life where major change after major change are going to keep occurring, so having one thing remain the same is comforting. We can rest easy a little bit and be settled.

Hooray for having one item done! Only 100 left!
