When I established this goal, I aimed for "5 times a year" for the 2010-2011 school year. However, why not get a head start?
This past week we had the end of the year party for my school. I have to admit, I almost backed out and didn't go. I had spent the week running from activity to activity, recovering from being out of town, and stuck in my 90-degree classroom. I was feeling extremely anti-social and just wanted a night in my quiet, air-conditioned apartment. However, I knew some of my favorite teachers were going and since I hardly ever see them, this was the perfect opportunity to catch up. Since we all teach different grades, we are in different parts of the building. It literally can be months before we run into each other.
As usual, I'm glad I went. I didn't stay late into the night and didn't participate much in the party portion of the evening, but I did get to catch up with "the ladies I admire from school". I am still so impressed by what wonderful people they are. Smart, funny, sophisticated, and incredibly caring. I need to surround myself with them more often.
I also got to chat with some other teachers which is always nice to do in a setting outside of school, and the food and building were gorgeous! Evidently the venue where we were at is one of the best in the state! I thought I was overdressed, but turns out I was almost too casual. The place was extremely fancy, had valet parking, waiters walking around with hors d'oeuvres, and a lady came around and "dinged" an xylophone when it was time to move from the cocktail hour into the dining room. Crystal chains draped down from giant flower arrangements and chandeliers hung beautifully from the tall ceilings. All of this and the building was nestled in a wooded park. Beautiful.
Thank you 101 list for once again getting me to do something I probably would have skipped and motivating me to do the right thing!
What fun!!
